In a tragic turn of events, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Rano Local Government Area in Kano State is feared dead following a violent attack by irate youths who set the Rano Divisional Police Station ablaze.

The unrest was triggered by the death of Abdullahi Musa, a motorcycle mechanic who was arrested on Sunday evening for alleged reckless riding. While in police custody, Musa reportedly became weak and was rushed to Rano General Hospital, where he died the following morning while receiving treatment.

The news of Musa’s death sparked outrage among local youths, leading to protests that escalated into violence. Angry mobs attacked the police station, setting part of it on fire and destroying several vehicles. In the chaos, the DPO was reportedly killed, though official confirmation is pending.

Kano State Police Command spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, confirmed the incident and assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted. He expressed condolences to the families affected and vowed to bring those responsible to justice.

The situation has raised concerns about police-community relations and the need for accountability in law enforcement practices. Authorities are calling for calm and urging citizens to refrain from violence as investigations continue.

This is a developing story. More details will be provided as they become available.
