In a chilling case of attempted child abduction, the Delta State Police Command has successfully rescued a two-month-old baby boy after a woman allegedly drugged the child’s mother and fled with the infant.

The arrest was confirmed by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olufemi Abaniwonda, during a press briefing held at the state command headquarters in Asaba on Wednesday.

🧃 The Deception

According to police reports, the suspect had offered the baby’s mother juice laced with drugs while they were traveling together on a business trip from Koko to Warri.

After drinking the juice, the woman fell into a deep sleep, allowing the suspect to flee with the baby unnoticed.

Thanks to swift investigative efforts, the Delta Police were able to trace and apprehend the suspect, successfully recovering the baby boy.

“The baby was rescued and has been reunited with his parents,” CP Abaniwonda stated, adding that investigations are still ongoing to determine the motive and background of the suspect.

👮 Community Praise and Next Steps

The successful rescue has drawn praise from community leaders and child welfare advocates, who commended the Delta Police for their quick response and effective coordination.

However, they also raised concerns about the increasing trend of child theft and the need for public awareness around trusting strangers during travel.
