In a devastating incident, seven individuals lost their lives when a cement-laden truck lost control and collided with a passenger vehicle in Benue State. The accident occurred along the Otukpo-Enugu Highway, a route notorious for frequent traffic mishaps.
Eyewitnesses reported that the truck, heavily loaded with cement, veered off its lane and rammed into a car carrying seven passengers, including the driver. All occupants of the car died on the spot due to the impact of the collision.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident, attributing the cause to brake failure on the part of the truck. Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene, and the bodies of the victims were transported to the Otukpo General Hospital mortuary.
This tragic event has raised concerns among residents and authorities about the safety of heavy-duty vehicles operating in the region. Local authorities have called for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations, particularly concerning the maintenance and operation of heavy-duty trucks.
As investigations into the incident continue, the community mourns the loss of lives and calls for immediate action to prevent such tragedies in the future.
