Former U.S. President Donald J. Trump has launched a scathing attack on the U.S. Supreme Court, accusing the justices of obstructing his ability to fulfill campaign promises following a recent ruling against his proposed migrant deportation policy.
In a fiery post on his Truth Social platform Friday, Trump declared:
“The Supreme Court of the United States is not allowing me to do what I was elected to do. This is a bad and dangerous day for America.”
Although full details of the ruling are still emerging, the Supreme Court reportedly struck down a key aspect of Trump’s aggressive migrant deportation agenda. The policy aimed to expand fast-track deportations for undocumented migrants, a central tenet of Trump’s immigration platform.
Legal analysts suggest the Court’s majority found the policy in violation of due process rights or federal procedural law, though the ruling has not yet been formally published in its entirety.
Trump, who is running for a second non-consecutive term in the 2024 U.S. presidential election, framed the decision as a direct attack on his mandate.
“I was elected to secure our borders and protect American jobs,” he wrote.
“This ruling makes our country less safe and undermines democracy.”
His supporters have echoed his sentiments online, while critics warn his remarks may further erode public trust in the judiciary.
Constitutional law professor Maya Evans of Georgetown University told News24Hours:
“It’s unprecedented, though not unexpected, for a former president and current candidate to openly discredit the Supreme Court’s authority in such personal terms.”
She added that Trump’s framing of the ruling as a barrier to his political will poses a dangerous precedent in a polarized legal environment.
Trump’s criticism adds to the mounting tensions surrounding the 2024 U.S. presidential race, in which immigration remains a high-stakes and deeply divisive issue.
Analysts warn that with the Court’s ruling, immigration will likely become an even more central flashpoint in the months leading to the November elections.
