The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results, revealing that over 1.5 million candidates scored below 200—considered the average benchmark out of 400.

Despite the widespread underperformance, Olamide Aderibigbe, a 16-year-old student of Starville International School in Jabi, Abuja, emerged as one of the top scorers with a total of 336 points.
His breakdown includes:

  • Mathematics: 98
  • Physics: 86
  • English: 68
  • Economics: 84

Olamide, who aspires to study Architecture at either Covenant University or the University of Ibadan, was celebrated by his father, Niran Aderibigbe, who attributed the success to divine grace.

📊 JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede revealed that out of over 1.9 million candidates, only:

  • 12,414 scored 300 and above
  • 4,756 scored 320 and above

In comparison to 2024, where only 8,000 candidates scored above 300, the 2025 results mark a slight improvement in top-tier performance but still highlight mass failure at the mid-range level.

🗣️ Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, said the results reflect renewed government efforts to curb examination malpractice, asserting that the numbers show a more accurate picture of educational standards.

Each candidate is tested in four subjects—including a compulsory Use of English—with a maximum score of 400 marks.
